Allotment Shop

With the updating of this website, we can say that the ‘new’ allotment shop has become an increasing success. The store is open to association members from February to November each year, from 12-2pm on Saturdays and 10-12pm on Sundays.  A rota of volunteers work in the shop and new volunteers are welcome. The subscription to join the association is £2 annually and it is open to tenants from other sites as well as members of the public. ( click to see association constitution) You will be asked for an email or postal address so that we can contact you with information about meetings and other updates.

The store is now managed by Ernie Darrell who has made considerable efforts to seek out the best suppliers for seed potatoes, onions, seeds and compost, fertilisers and other essentials, such as weed control fabric, netting and stakes and posts. He also tours the sales and is able to stock tools and other hardware that make it easier for tenants to keep their plots fenced securely, dug over and looking well maintained. If there are items that are not in stock he will try to get them for members.

It is possible to hire some tools from the shop on payment of a deposit.
The membership fee goes towards the costs of the association and members are offered significant reductions in the costs of all items, compared with commercial stores. Deans Garden Centre offers members a discount on production of their membership card at their store.

The shop, like any other building will need ongoing maintenance and members who have skills in construction and can volunteer to help should let the site secretaries know or call in at the shop with their details. Improvements that fit the budget and are feasible will be welcome in years to come.
