Volunteers making a footpath VOLUNTEER VACANCIES
There is always plenty of work to do for volunteers willing to help us maintain the Local Nature Reserve and keep the Centre running. There are jobs to suit everyone: cutting grass, chopping wood, pulling up unwanted plants, litter pick, laying paths, painting, etc. In return we can offer you cups of tea, some biscuits and loads of gratitude. St Nicholas Fields would still be a dump if it wasn't for the immense power of voluntary action. Thankyous to everyone who has helped us to make the magic transformation of a landfill site into a thriving Local Nature Reserve supplemented by the York Environment Centre. Whether you've got a bit or lots of time to spare, please let us know or simply drop in for a chat and cup of tea. Or...

GET ACTIVE, GET ECO-ACTIVE! Join the St Nicks Volunteer Action Days
At St Nicks, we have so many tasks that need doing around the nature reserve and at the Environment Centre. We also know that there are lots of you out there who would like to help out. So, in the New Year we will be starting regular volunteer action days - Eco-Active Days! Twice a month (the first Saturday of the month and one weekday), we will have a particular task or a variety of tasks that need doing. The work will be done in small groups supervised by a member of the St Nicks’ staff or York’s Local Nature Reserves Officer.

Come along to help out with: planting, building, pruning, coppicing, litter-picking, painting, gardening, clearing paths, bashing balsam, shifting compost or something else we just haven’t thought of yet. This will be a great opportunity to be doing something useful outdoors, get lots of fresh air, maybe learn a new skill, get fit, meet like-minded people, drink cups of tea and probably, during the winter, get muddy and wet! Free soup and bread will be provided for lunch.

Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing and strong shoes or boots. Don’t forget to bring water-proofs. Gloves and any tools required will be provided. Please let us know if you plan to come along on a particular day and for details of the activities. See the Events for the nearest dates.
