Friends of St Nicholas Fields

A friendly leaf

The Friends of St Nicholas Fields (charity registered no. 1068909) promote sustainable living. We have transformed a former landfill site in York into a Local Nature Reserve and Environment Centre. From this base, we provide inspiration, advice, practical examples and services to enable people in York and beyond to move towards a sustainable future.

Our three core activities are:

  • Continuing to improve St Nicholas Fields as a Local Nature Reserve, enriching its biodiversity and habitats and enhancing its educational and recreational value for the local and wider York community.
  • Developing the Environment Centre at St Nicholas Fields as a source of information, advice and inspiration with practical examples of sustainable design and ways of living.
  • Developing projects and services such as recycling and composting schemes, which help to create sustainable communities.
Would you like to support our work?
Let us know. You can help in any or all of the following ways:
  • Volunteer: There is always some work to do around the nature reserve or in the office and there are enough jobs to suit everyone.
  • Become a Friend: Membership costs £2 per year and entitles you to receive regular mailings (newsletters mailed out in March, July and November plus occasional irregular email updates on upcoming events or other urgent matter), to come to all meetings and have your say in our decision-making. The Friends of St Nicholas Fields meet up every third Thursday of the month at 7:30 pm at the Centre and Annual General Meetings usually take place in the last week of July.
Please click here for a membership form (it is a 61KB pdf file), which can also be used for one-off donations. Print it out, fill it in and send it to us along with your payment. Any extra donations are always very welcome. The membership fee covers our costs of keeping in touch with our members while your donations can help us develop our projects. By gift-aiding your payment your money will go even further. Thank you.
  • Spread the word: Tell your friends about us. Help us promote our events and sustainable lifestyles.
